The Ghana Export‑Import Bank (GEXIM) successfully hosted the maiden Ghana Agrotech Fair 2026 a landmark national agricultural technology and innovation exhibition aimed at accelerating Ghana’s agribusiness transformation and boosting export‑oriented growth. The three‑day event took place from March 17–19, 2026 at Independence Square in Accra, drawing stakeholders from across the agricultural value chain, including farmers, agritech innovators, processors, investors, technical institutions, policymakers, and development partners. 

Themed “Transforming Agribusiness through Local Innovation and Technology”, this inaugural fair was organized under the strategic leadership of GEXIM’s Chief Executive, Hon. Sylvester Adinam Mensah, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry. The event reinforced GEXIM’s commitment to promoting industrialization, technology adoption, and export development in the agricultural sector core pillars of the Bank’s mandate. 

 

Opening Ceremony & Presidential Address

The fair was officially opened by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, who underscored the importance of prioritising technology, innovation, and value addition in Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda. In his address, President Mahama emphasised that agriculture must transition from subsistence to a modern, production‑ and export‑oriented sector, capable of driving industrial growth, creating jobs, and generating foreign exchange for the economy. He stressed that events such as the GhanaAgrotech Fair provide vital platforms that “connect ideas to enterprise, research to industry, and innovation to investment,” ultimately transforming agriculture into a sector of opportunity and national prosperity. 

President Mahama further announced the commencement of the first Farmer Service Centre project for the Afram Plains the first of 50 planned centres designed to serve as one‑stop hubs for mechanization services, training, and agricultural support infrastructure. 

Ministerial Perspective: Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu‑Adjare

In her remarks, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu‑Adjare, Minister of Trade, Agribusiness & Industry, reaffirmed the Government’s resolve to close the gap between Ghana’s agricultural potential and its current productivity levels. She reiterated that the fair aligned with national strategies to modernize agriculture, boost agro‑industrialization, and elevate Ghana’s competitiveness as an agribusiness destination in West Africa. Minister Ofosu‑Adjare stressed the need for targeted policy reforms, supportive financing mechanisms, and strategic partnerships to unlock the sector’s full potential. 

 

GEXIM Contribution & Vision

At the fair, GEXIM’s Chief Executive, Hon. Sylvester Adinam Mensah, articulated the Bank’s vision for the event as a recurring national platform that bridges farmers, innovators, investors, and financial institutions. He highlighted that agriculture extends beyond farming, encompassing processing, packaging, branding, distribution, and export calling for collaboration across public and private sectors to build sustainable and profitable agritech enterprises. According to Hon. Sylvester Adinam Mensah, the fair is meant to catalyze investment, stimulate locally driven agricultural innovations, and strengthen Ghana’s integration into global agribusiness markets. 

Hon. Sylvester Adinam Mensah also noted that the GhanaAgrotech Fair is part of activities marking GEXIM’s 10th anniversary, reinforcing the Bank’s role in supporting export‑led economic growth and technology adoption within key productive sectors. 

 

Looking Forward

The maiden GhanaAgrotech Fair 2026 showcased a diverse range of locally manufactured agricultural machines, agro‑processing technologies, digital tools, and climate‑smart solutions, providing practical avenues for partnerships, technical collaborations, and investment discussions. It brought to the forefront the critical role of agritech and innovation in transforming Ghana’s agriculture from traditional practices into a modern, competitive, and export‑ready sector.

The success of this first edition sets the stage for future iterations and reaffirms GEXIM’s commitment to being a catalyst for agribusiness transformation and sustained economic growth in Ghana.
