Accra, Ghana | July 22, 2026 – Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM) and Ghana International Bank PLC (GHIB) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Ghana EXIM Bank Headquarters in Accra to establish a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening Ghana’s export and international trade ecosystem.

The agreement was signed by Hon. Sylvester Adinam Mensah, Chief Executive of Ghana EXIM Bank, and Ian Greenstreet, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana International Bank PLC, marking a significant milestone in enhancing access to international trade finance, correspondent banking services and global financial solutions for Ghanaian exporters.

The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration that combines the strengths, expertise and international networks of both institutions to support Ghanaian businesses seeking to expand into regional and global markets. Through the partnership, the two institutions will work together to improve access to trade finance, working capital, letters of credit, guarantees, international payment and settlement services, foreign exchange and treasury solutions, syndicated and structured finance, commodity finance, and export development support.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Hon. Sylvester Adinam Mensah, Chief Executive of Ghana Export-Import Bank, described the partnership as a strategic step towards strengthening Ghana’s international trade ecosystem and advancing the Bank’s mandate of promoting export-led industrialization.

“Ghana EXIM Bank is more of an international bank, even though it operates locally. Our mandate is to facilitate exports and imports in ways that drive economic growth. On the import side, we are focused on import substitution, while on the export side, we are promoting agro-processing to increase value addition, generate foreign exchange and create sustainable jobs for Ghanaians. We look forward to this collaboration with Ghana International Bank PLC as an opportunity to expand syndicated financing, strengthen our access to global banking services and deepen our correspondent banking relationship. While we already maintain correspondent relationships with other banks, it is equally important that we look inward, leverage our shared Ghanaian heritage, culture and mutual understanding to enhance our business growth strategy and better serve Ghanaian exporters.”

Ian Greenstreet, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana International Bank PLC, underscored the Bank’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s export ambitions through its international banking expertise.

“We are delighted to partner with Ghana EXIM Bank to support the growth of Ghana’s export sector. By combining our international banking capabilities with GEXIM’s deep understanding of Ghana’s development priorities, we look forward to facilitating greater access to global markets and financial solutions for Ghanaian exporters.”

The collaboration aligns with Ghana EXIM Bank’s mandate under the Ghana Export-Import Bank Act, 2016 (Act 911), to promote export-led industrialization through financing, guarantees, trade facilitation, advisory services and export development programmes. It also complements Ghana’s national agenda of promoting value addition, export diversification, industrialization, investment and sustainable economic growth.

Specific transactions and programmes under the partnership will be implemented subject to applicable regulatory requirements, internal approval processes and separate agreements between the two institutions.

The signing of the MoU signals a shared commitment by Ghana EXIM Bank and Ghana International Bank PLC to deepen Ghana’s integration into global trade, strengthen the competitiveness of Ghanaian exporters and unlock new opportunities for sustainable economic transformation.
