BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER ENGAGES GEXIM MANAGEMENT


The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Harriet Thompson on Thursday 13th February 2025 met with Executive Management of Ghana's leading Development and Policy Bank, the Ghana Export - Import Bank (GEXIM) at her residence in Cantonment, Accra.

The GEXIM team was led by the Acting Chief Executive, Hon. Sylvester Mensah and included Mr. Moses Klu Mensah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, responsible for Banking and Business Operations and Mr. Jonathan Christopher Koney, Manager, International Cooperation.

The meeting was a courtesy call on the High Commissioner by the new Executive Management following their appointment by the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. It also provided an opportunity to discuss the strategic direction of the Bank under the leadership of Hon. Sylvester Mensah.

The High Commissioner welcomed a request from the GEXIM team to collaborate with the High Commission to support the management to achieve the Bank's mission to be positioned as a main catalyst in the development of Ghana's export trade, cross border trade facilitation and elevating Ghana to become a pillar in regional and continental trade culminating into employment creation.

Her Excellency Harriet Thompson further highlighted key projects being undertaken by the High Commission across multiple sectors in Ghana in collaboration with key United Kingdom government agencies as well as British businesses.

Hon. Sylvester Mensah thanked the High Commissioner for hosting the team and reaffirmed the Ghanaian government's commitment to strengthening trade and investment between Ghana and its global partners for economic transformation of Ghana with the Bank playing a pivotal role.

He added that the Bank's immediate priority areas are accelerated export trade, increased food production, support agribusiness and to generate growth in job opportunities with focus on agriculture and the garment sub-sector. In addition, the Bank will be aid in developing domestic production leading to import substitution.

The two teams will be meeting in the coming days to develop progress discussions.
