PARTICIPANTS OF THE COLLEGE OF DEFENCE STUDIES UNDERTAKE A STUDY TOUR IN GEXIM


Major General Nii Ayitey Aryeetey made a presentation of a military plaque to Mr. Lawrence Agyinsam at the Head office of GEXIM at the Africa Trade House.


On Thursday, 25th July 2024, participants of the Ghana National College of Defence Studies led by the Commandant, Major General Nii Ayitey Aryeetey undertake a study tour to the Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM).


The meeting was held at the Head Office of GEXIM in Accra and allowed the Bank to discuss areas of mutual interest for collaboration including environment, security, and development.

In his opening remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, Mr. Lawrence Agyinsam welcomed the participants and reiterated the Bank’s commitment in line with its mandate to reposition the Ghanaian economy into an export-led one.

In his presentation, the Chief Executive Officer indicated that the bank is guided by the vision of Ghana Beyond Aid and is dedicated to transforming Ghana’s Economy through the facilitation of non-traditional exports and import of essential machinery and innovative technology to help achieve Ghana’s Industrliasation Agenda.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, the Bank has taken a pragmatic approach to deepening its relations with other Export-Import Banks, Export Credit Agencies, Development Finance Institutions, Diplomatic Missions, and others. In the past six years, we have had strategic engagements with India EXIM Bank, Turkish EXIM Bank, Thailand EXIM Bank,  and Indonesia EXIM Bank to review our existing agreements.

He further stressed that the strategic discussions with these institutions were to explore new opportunities in various sectors under the agreements and increase our collaboration for funding of bankable and groundbreaking projects in Ghana to aiding Ghanaian businesses and entrepreneurs to access funds globally and explore prospects for Ghanaian businesses, products, and services in foreign markets.

The Chief Executive Officer again said, the Bank has demonstrated its commitment to incorporating comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into its operational frameworks. As a result, the Bank won the 2019 City of Karlsruhe Outstanding Sustainable Project Financing Award after submitting a detailed Project Cycle Financing Support extended to Juabeng Oil Co. Ltd based in Juaben in the Ashanti Region.

On his part, Major General Nii Ayitey Aryeetey thanked the Bank for receiving them and commended Management for its effort to drive Export to add value to the country's raw materials while creating employment and generating foreign exchange for the country.
